Had worn them really about the same,

I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh

Tanlanmagan yoʻl

Kuz oʻrmoni oʻrtasida yoʻl ikkiga ayrildi,
Bir yoʻlovchi ikki rohdan yura olmaydi, afsus.
Uzoq turdim, soʻqmoqlarning soʻng biriga qayrildim,
Qay manzilga eltarkan, deb ichkariga tikdim koʻz:
Egri ekan changalzorda qayergadir qayrildi.

Safar uchun ikkinchisin maʼqul koʻrdim – serjilo,
Jozibador, ham kam odam bosib oʻtgan tuyuldi.
Va undagi oʻt-oʻlanlar maftunkorroqdek, ammo
Mendan oldin oʻzgalar ham xoʻp yurishgan bu yoʻldan,
Tanlanmagan soʻqmoqdan kam ezilmagandi, aslo.

Ikkisi ham oʻsha tongda barg-la birdek qoplangan,
Ikkisin ham oʻpmagandi besoʻnaqay qadamlar.
O, birinchi yoʻl – yoʻlimsan boshqa kunga saqlangan!
Lek bilaman oʻz yoʻliga singib ketar odamlar
Va sen tomon qaytmogʻim ham gumonlarga mixlangan.

Oradan koʻp yillar oʻtib xotiralar qaytadir –
“Oʻrmon aro ikki soʻqmoq uchragandi dafʼatan –
Deya bir kun yod etarman xoʻrsingancha qaydadir, –
Tanlagandim kamroq yurib oʻtilganin va aynan
Oʻsha tanlov manglayimga taqdirni qilgan taqrir”.
